Leo & Maureen

We’d spent the afternoon walking along the waterfront, just talking — about work, about where we’d go next, about nothing in particular. The city was behind us, glowing even under the clouds, and the wind off the water made everything feel a little more alive.
He kept slowing down, like he was waiting for something. I didn’t think much of it until we stopped near the railing, and he turned to face me.
“I’ve been meaning to ask you something,” he said, and then he reached into his coat.
I don’t remember the exact words — just the way his voice shook a little, and how quiet the city suddenly felt. He opened the box, and the ring was simple, classic, and somehow perfect.
I said yes. And then we stood there for a while, just watching the skyline, letting it all sink in.
Now, every time I look at the ring, I think about that moment — the wind, the water, the city behind us, and the way everything else faded except him.
