Hussain & Madison

We weren’t dressed up. We weren’t at a fancy place. Just our favorite booth at the diner we’ve been going to since college — the one with the squeaky seat and the lemon water I always ask for.
He was nervous, I could tell. Kept adjusting his glasses and pretending to read the menu. Then, out of nowhere, he reached across the table, held my hand, and said, “I’ve loved you since the first time you ordered fries and dessert at the same time.”
I laughed. And then he pulled out the ring.
It’s stunning — classic, but with this sparkle that feels like it was made just for me. I couldn’t stop staring at it, even as our server came by and said, “Did I just witness a proposal?”
We ended up staying for pie and calling our families from the parking lot. It wasn’t planned, it wasn’t perfect — but it was us. And that ring? It’s the reminder I wear every day that love doesn’t need a mountain view. Sometimes, it’s just lemon water and the right person across the table.
