Cody & Katie

We’d been talking about taking a weekend trip for months, but between work and everything else, it just never happened. Then one Friday, he said, “Pack something nice, but comfortable,” and wouldn’t tell me where we were going.
We ended up by the water, with the sun just starting to dip and a breeze that made the whole place smell like summer. We found a spot under the canopy, ordered drinks, and just sat there watching the light change on the lake.
At some point, he reached for my hand and said, “I’ve been carrying this with me all day.” I thought he meant a story or a joke — until he pulled out the ring.
It wasn’t a big production, no crowd or music, just the two of us and the sound of the water. I said yes, and we laughed because it felt so perfectly us — simple, easy, and exactly right.
Now, every time I look at the ring, I think about that afternoon: the way the sun hit the water, the way he smiled, and how, for a little while, it felt like the rest of the world had stopped moving.
