Jesse & Melissa
We were at his parents’ house — burgers on the grill, kids running around, everyone talking over each other. I’d just set my plate down when he walked over, took both my hands, and suddenly dropped to one knee.
Everything went quiet for a second. Then he asked.
I don’t remember who screamed first — maybe his sister, maybe me — but I remember the hugs, the tears, and someone running inside to grab a bag of confetti. We stood there in the middle of the lawn, laughing as it floated down around us.
The ring is exactly what I’d always pictured — simple, classic, with just enough sparkle to catch the light when I move.
We stayed outside long after the food was gone, just letting it sink in, looking at his parents’ backyard like it had turned into a whole new place.
