Gary & Arunee

We’d been at a friend’s backyard party — nothing fancy, just music, food, and those string lights they’d hung between the trees. It was one of those late summer nights where the air is warm but not heavy, and you can actually hear the crickets over the chatter.
At some point, we wandered away from the crowd, just far enough that the music turned into a soft hum. He took my hand, and I could feel his heart racing even before he said anything.
“I’ve been carrying this around all night,” he said, and pulled out the ring. No big speech, no getting down on one knee — just him, looking at me like I was the only person under those lights.
I said yes, of course. And then we just stood there for a while, holding onto each other, letting the moment sink in. The ring is perfect — classic, with a sparkle that catches every bit of light.
We went back to the party eventually, but for the rest of the night, it felt like we were in our own little bubble, with the string lights above us and the future right in front of us.
